Pre-Requisites:

  • Ensure that your phone battery is charged at least up to 60% as a lack of battery power may increase the chances of interruption during the Lineage OS 15 ROM flashing process.
  • Backup all the data present on your phone including your contacts, messages, installed apps, call logs, notes, Whatsapp messages etc. This step is essential as complete data gets wiped out in the last step of this procedure.
  • Make sure your computer has Motorola mobile-specific USB drivers installed on it. This is a must to detect your phone when connected to the computer. You can manually install the drivers from the link given below.

Procedure to install Android 8.0 Oreo Lineage OS 15 ROM on Moto G3 2015:

Step 1: Download the Lineage OS 15 ROM and GApps package files (.zip) on your computer.

Note: Do not extract these zip files.

Step 2: Using a micro USB cable connect your Moto G3 to the computer and transfer both these zip files on your phones internal memory. Then safely disconnect your phone from the computer.

Note: If you don’t have a computer, then you may directly download the files on your phone.

Step 3: Now power off your Moto G3 completely until it vibrates.

Step 4: Next you need to restart your Moto G3 into bootloader mode. For doing so, keep pressing and holding the Volume down key + Power button simultaneously until you land into bootloader mode.

Note: Your bootloader must be unlocked. Refer Pre-Requisites section.

Step 5: In bootloader mode, you can perform various operations like restart bootloader, enter recovery mode, start bootloader mode etc. just by using Volume up and down keys. So using Volume keys open the Recovery mode option and select it using the Power button.

Step 6: As soon as you hit the power button your phone will boot into TWRP recovery mode.

As you enter the TWRP recovery mode, the first thing you need to do is make a complete backup of your current ROM.

Step 7: Now press the back button to enter the main menu of TWRP recovery and select the Wipe option.

Step 8: On the next screen swipe to initiate a factory reset.

Note: This step will clear all the data present on your internal memory so backup everything before implementing this step.

Step 9: After wiping out everything press the back button and again go to the main menu and select the Wipe option.

Step 10: Then click on the Advanced Wipe option present there.

Step 11: On the next screen, select the particular partitions to wipe.

Then swipe to initiate the wiping process.

Step 12: After the wiping process completes, select the Install option from the main menu. This will show you all the files present on your phone’s memory.

Step 13: Just navigate to the Android 8.0 Oreo-based Lineage OS 15 ROM which you’ve copied earlier and select it. On the next screen just swipe to initiate the actual flashing process.

Step 14: Be patient and wait for the flashing process to complete. It will hardly take a few minutes. As soon as it completes, you’ll see the successful message on the screen.

Step 15: Now go back and install the Google Apps package (which contains Play Store, Gmail, Gtalk, etc.) in the same way as you’ve flashed the Lineage OS 15 custom ROM.

Step 16: Everything completes here. Just restart your phone by selecting the Reboot->System option present on the TWRP recovery mode itself.

Note: The first boot will take more time to start than usual.
