Install Android 4.4 KitKat on Galaxy Exhibit 4G T679. Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G SGH-T679 was launched back in 2011 with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This low end device stopped receiving further updates after Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. This was due to the lack in features and specs that this phone had. Some of its features include512 MB RAM, 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, 3.15 megapixel camera, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset and microSD slot expandable up to 32 GB. Although these specs were highly appreciated the days it was launched but today they are considered as a total crap. There is only one way to make this crap the most amazing phone. And this can be done by flashing unofficial custom ROMs. Custom ROMs based on newer versions gives a complete experience of the recently launched Android OS on your phone. There are various kinds of Custom ROMs including Cyanogenmod, AOKP, PACman, Slim Bean, Carbon, Liquid smooth, Xylon and many more. Amongst all the most used and well known custom ROM is Cyanogenmod. It is considered as the best because of the hardwork that the CM developers take to develop a ROM. The CM ROMs are the most stable fast and bug free. Try this at your own risk. Neither I nor the developers of this ROM would be held responsible for any of the damage caused to your device after following this guide. Although it is very rare that your device will be damaged but still I highly recommend you to follow all the instructions properly as they are mentioned below.
This article is compatible only and only with Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G model number SGH-T679. So don’t even think of flashing if you’re having another device except the one mentioned as it may permanently damage your phone. You can check your device model in Settings -> About Phone.
- You must charge your phones battery at least up to 60% before moving ahead. This decreases the risk of interruption during the flashing process.
- Also a complete backup of entire data present on your phone must be done. The data may include contacts, SMS/MMS, APN settings, Memo, Call logs, whatsapp messages etc. Copy all this important data on your phones SD card or on your PC. This is essential as everything gets wiped in the last step of this procedure.
- EFS folder, a very sensitive folder present in your system directory must be backed up. This folder contains all your phones specific information such as the IMEI, wireless devices MAC addresses, product code, and much more. There is always a risk that sometimes flashing ROM may corrupt the content within this EFS folder. If so happened, your device will be completely useless & will no longer be recognized by your carrier. Refer our article to backup and restore EFS/IMEI data:
- Ensure that you have installed mobile specific drivers on your PC. This is important so as to recognize your phone when connected via USB cable. You can install them by installing Samsung Kies or manually install them from the link given below:
