- It is highly recommended to backup your data as everything gets wiped out in the last step of this procedure. So backup your contacts, apps, messages, call logs, notes etc. using any app from Google Play Store.
- Install latest Samsung USB drivers on your PC so as to detect your phone when connected via USB cable. You can install them from Samsung Kies CD which you’ve got at the time of purchase or just manually install from link given below.
- (Optional) Temporary disable all the security tools as well as antivirus that are installed on your computer.
Procedure to install Android 8.0.0 Oreo DDU1ARD5 firmware on Galaxy J7 Duo
Step 1: Download and Extract both the files to a convenient location on your computer. After extracting the firmware package (.zip file), you’ll find these files in it:
Step 2: Then Switch off your phone and boot it into download mode.
Step 3: For doing so, keep pressing and holding the ‘Home button + Power button + Volume down key’ simultaneously until you see a warning message. Leave all the keys and just press Volume Up key to enter the download mode.
Step 4: Keeping the phone in download mode, connect it to computer using standard USB cable.
Step 5: Go to the downloaded folder on your computer and launch the downloaded ‘Odin Multi Downloader3-v3.13.1′ software.
As soon as you launch it, the ID: COM section located at the top left corner will turn light blue. Also an Added message will appear in the message box window. This will confirm that your Galaxy J7 Duo has been successfully connected to your PC.
Note: If such thing doesn’t happen then it’s more likely to be problem with the Samsung USB drivers. So manually install the USB drivers from the links given in the Pre-Requisites section. If the problem still persists try changing USB cable or the USB port.
Step 6: Now click on the Options tab located on the Odin window and tick the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time options. Do not tick any other options than mentioned.
Note: Do not tick the Re-partition option as it might brick your phone. Don’t use the PIT tab either.
Step 7: Then, click on the BL button present on the Odin window and select the BL_J720FDDU1ARD5_CL13479929_QB17871436_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 from the firmware package file.
Step 8: Similarly click on the CP button and select the CP_J720FXXU1ARD2_CP9406375_CL13385872_QB17685347_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file.
Step 9: Then click on the CSC button and select the HOME_CSC_OMC_ODM_J720FODM1ARD5_CL13479929_QB17871436_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file.
Note: Normal CSC contains an instruction that allows Odin to wipe out complete data while HOME_CSC contains instruction to only allow wipe of cache. But when a downgrade is done (eg. from Oreo back to Nougat) a factory reset is must. So use normal CSC at that time.
Step 10: Finally click on the AP button and select the AP_J720FDDU1ARD5_CL13479929_QB17871436_REV00_user_low_ship_meta.tar.md5 from the firmware package file.
Note: The AP file will take little time to load. So wait and be patient.
Step 11: Everything completes here, just initiate the flashing process to actually flash the Android Oreo firmware. So hit the Start button present on the Odin window.
Note: Meanwhile your phone will automatically boot itself. Do not disconnect your phone from computer as it will interrupt the firmware flashing process.
Step 12: The process will take few minutes to finish. When it completes successfully, the ID: COM section will turn green with message ‘Pass’ on it. This will confirm that the official Android 8.0.0 Oreo DDU1ARD5 firmware has been successfully installed on your Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo smartphone. Now you may disconnect your phone from PC by safely removing the USB cable.
Note: If this firmware flashing process fails or if Odin gets stuck or in case your phone gets stuck into boot loop, then close the Odin window, again go into downloading mode and implement the complete procedure as given above.
